About AAIB

The history of Arab African International Bank dates back to 12th February 1964 (Ramadan, 1383 ) with the promulgation of special law no 45 for 1964 decreed by the President of Egypt. This led to the establishment of the first Arab multinational Bank in Egypt with its majority shareholders being the Central Bank of Egypt and Kuwait Investment Authority. AAIB’s distinction started early on with the special status that was associated with its establishment; the law that licensed the establishment of the Bank allowed the latter a number of significant privileges that were way beyond the norms at that time.

To avail the Bank of all means of success at its initiation, the law provided for the bank’s exemption from the provisions of some of the then prevailing legislations. According to the articles of the law, the bank shall not be subject to the provisions of the Nationalization Laws, the Laws organizing joint-stock companies nor the Laws regulating dealings in foreign currencies. The company personnel shall also be exempted from the laws and resolutions pertaining to the organization of employment, salaries, emoluments and pensions at Public Organizations and joint-stock companies. The bank will also not be subject to the control of the State Audit Department. With this special law, along with its dollar based equity and strong shareholders base, AAIB was up to a solid start.

With its history, a proven track record of regional and international exposure, and in light of a strong belief in the unraveling potential of the Egyptian market, AAIB management opted to focus on its local operations in Egypt, heading with full momentum in expanding in the Egyptian market.

AAIB history is not only about its long years of uninterrupted banking operation, it is about a legacy of values and banking tradition that lingered on over these years. The real story of the Bank has been its reliable and unwavering support to community and customers. Despite different epochs, the bank has sustained its operation and conducted business in a consistent, solid manner as usual, hence came its slogans of “Confidence…Distinction”.
